After years of grinding it out playing for egotistical assholes in Los Angeles, vocalist Johnny Skulls and guitarist Dax Dabs finally asked themselves the question so many never do: “Why the fck are we trying to do it their way?”* In that moment of clarity, what once felt distorted and uninspired snapped into focus. No more bending to industry gatekeepers. No more worshiping relics from a faded past. With nothing but the open road and their own vision ahead, the longtime friends joined forces and returned to their roots.

In 2019, the duo made their way back home to Boston and began building something new, Above Snakes. Teaming up with producer Kile Odell (Papa Roach, Nothing More, Motionless in White), they dropped their debut single “Adrenaline” in the summer of 2020. The track quickly caught fire, landing placements on Spotify’s Loudwire and Hopeless Records playlists. Follow-up single “Never Alone” earned a coveted spot on Spotify’s Rock Hard playlist, further cementing their arrival. Beyond the music, Johnny Skulls channels his creative drive into every aspect of the band designing and building the sets for their music videos and launching his own clothing line. “I love building and working with my hands,” Skulls says. “Everything we do is from the ground up.” 2021 saw Above Snakes doubling down on their signature rebellious energy with the release of “I Feel Bad” and “Nothing To Lose,” capped off by their live debut opening for Dropout Kings. The following year exploded with momentum. In 2022, Above Snakes hit the road on a full U.S. tour with From Ashes To New, Fire From The Gods, Blind Channel, and Kingdom Collapse in support of their single “The Broken Ones.”That summer, they dropped “Living The Nightmare” and toured with RA, Stitched Up Heart, and September Mourning before officially joining the TKO Booking roster under Andrew Goodfriend.

Their next single, “Down,” premiered October 6th, 2022, exclusively on SiriusXM Octane’s Test Drive before being added to regular rotation. It also landed on Pandora’s Decibel and Apple Music’s Breaking Hard Rock playlists, supported by a run with Texas Hippie Coalition. Above Snakes followed up with “81 (Thallium),” again premiering on Octane and climbing to #52 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Chart. The band kept the momentum going, touring with Adelitas Way, Otherwise, and Moon Fever, and sharing stages with Drowning Pool and Nonpoint on select dates.Their 2023 single “Crash N Burn” premiered exclusively on SiriusXM Octane and featured a fan-shot music video from their Adelitas Way tour, racking up over 20,000 views in its first week and earning major support from Apple Music and Pandora.

The band kept their foot on the gas, touring with Indonesia’s Voice of Baceprot (VOB), hitting legendary venues like The Gramercy Theatre (NYC) and The Shelter (Detroit) before sharing the stage with In This Moment, Motionless In White, From Ashes To New, and Fit For A King at BankNH Pavilion. They closed out 2023 supporting A Killer’s Confession and Reddstar. In 2024, Above Snakes hit the road again supporting Saliva, Drowning Pool, and Alien Ant Farm, followed by a run with Awake At Last and American Dream Machine. The year closed with another round of shows alongside Drowning Pool. Kicking off 2025, Above Snakes provided direct support for Filter at the iconic Ritz Theater in Scranton, PA, followed by a co-headlining summer run with Awake At Last. The band will close out the year at Wally’s in Hampton Beach for the 16th Annual Halloween Party presented by Jack Daniels, alongside Major Moment and Prospect Hill. And the road doesn’t stop there, Above Snakes will launch into 2026 supporting No Resolve and Shallow Side on tour this February. Fueled by grit, independence, and an unrelenting DIY spirit, Above Snakes is the sound of modern hard rock done their way loud, unapologetic, and built to last.
